Introduction about the department.

Zilla Panchayat Engineering division working under Zilla panchayat.  There are two divisions in the district. Madhugiri division comprises of Gubbi, Turuvekere, C.N.Halli, Pavagada and Koratagere taluks. Tumkur division covers Kunigal, Tumkur, Tiptur, Madhugiri and Sira taluks. Both the divisions are headed by Executive Engineers. At each division the works are executed through sub-divisions at taluk level and each sub-division are headed by Assistant Executive Engineer. Execution of new work under sectors like rural water supply scheme, irrigation, tank, minor irrigation, roads & buildings is being looked after by engineering division. Apart from that the maintenance of roads, irrigation tanks is also taken up by ZP Engineering Division.

Before 01-04-1987 Minor irrigation and PWD departments will maintain the development programmers.  Then the system changes to Panchayath Raj Engineering Division which effect from vide G.O. CPWD8/PCA/87/ Bangalore, dated: 31-03-1987. and Office letter No. POA/52/CRS/85/Bangalore, dated: 27-04-1987.   The records of PWD, Minor Irrigation,  PHE and other departments will combined with it.  Finally it effect from 01-04-1987  to 07-07-1987 all the reports were submitted to Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayath Tumkur vide office letter No: 233/87-88/1867, dated: 07-07-1987.

Zilla Panchayath Engineering Division, Madhugiri functions under Zilla Panchayath, Tumkur The   Executive Engineer heads this division office. It  has  sub-divisions of Tumkur dist.  at taluk head quarters, namely Madhugiri   officiated by Assistant Executive Engineer of respective taluks.  Prime responsibility of this division is to execute the New Water Supply Schemes, Roads & Bridges, Buildings and Minor Irrigation Works approved by the Zilla Panchayath.

During natural calamities like drought or floods, this division will have responsibility the occasion to carryout preventive and repairs measures to take care the properties of Zilla Panchayath.  

This Division Now a days Name as Panchayath Raj Engineering Division (General) this division has to Maintain regular works on buildings Roads and other works.
